Command Master Chief Michael McCarty


Command Master Chief Michael McCarty enlisted in the United States Army Reserve in April 1987, attending boot camp at Fort Leonard Wood, MO and Ammunition Specialist school at Redstone Arsenal, AL, before reporting to the 395th Ordnance Company in Appleton, WI. He subsequently transferred to the 56th Material Management Center in Fort Snelling, MN, where he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant before leaving the Army at the end of his enlistment.
 
He enlisted in the United States Navy as an Engineering Aide Second Class in May 2001.  He was assigned to the Operations Department of Naval Mobile Construction Battalion (NMCB) 25, Fort McCoy, WI. Upon advancing to Engineering Aide First Class, he was promoted to Operations Department leading petty officer and served in that role through NMCB 25’s deployment to Iraq, in 2006. He was selected as the unit’s Sailor of the Year (SOY) and was a finalist for the Navy Expeditionary Combat Command SOY.

He was selected for Chief Petty Officer in 2007.
 
In October 2008, he joined the 1st Naval Construction Division (1NCD) in Little Creek, VA, and was assigned to the Training Department’s Exercise Control Group. He deployed with the II Marine Expeditionary Force from March 2011 to March 2012 to Helmand Province, Afghanistan, where he served as the Construction Chief in support of the 1st and 5th Regimental Combat Teams.  Following the deployment, he returned to 1NCD and was promoted to Senior Chief Petty Officer.
 
In September 2013, he returned to NMCB 25 as the Training Chief. He transitioned to the operations chief in September 2016 and was promoted to Master Chief Petty Officer in May 2018.

During his time as operations chief, Master Chief served as the mobilization manager driving the manning of two 85-person detachments in support of Joint Special Operations Task Forces. He returned to active duty in May 2019 as the senior enlisted advisor of Detachment Bravo, deploying to CENTCOM from August 2019 through March 2020. 

He was selected for Command Master Chief in March 2020 and served as command master chief with NMCB 22 from December 2020 until September 2023. He is currently serving as command master chief for 7th Naval Construction Regiment.
 
Master Chief is designated Seabee Combat Warfare Specialist, Expeditionary Warfare Specialist, and Fleet Marine Force Warfare Specialist.  He is a graduate of the Senior Enlisted Academy Blended Course, (Class 52) and CMC/COB Course (Class 20140). 
 
He graduated from University of Wisconsin Stout with a Bachelor of Science degree in Construction Management in 1992.  He is a licensed Professional Land Surveyor in Wisconsin and is the Survey Project Manager for Stantec Consulting Services Inc. in Sturgeon Bay, WI.​

His personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (3), Army Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (2), Army Achievement Medal, and various other personal and unit awards.
