Seabee Master Chief Daniel Sherman


Master Chief Sherman a native of Pittsburgh, Pa. Upon graduation from high school he continued to work as a carpenter’s apprentice for Flynn  Construction Management General Contracting, Inc. for five years. In May 2001, he began his U.S. Navy career attending Boot Camp at Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, Ill. and graduated as the Honor Recruit.

He then reported to Builder (BU) “A” School in Gulfport, Miss., where he was an Honor Graduate and was accepted for the Accelerated Advancement Program and promoted to 3rd Class Petty Officer immediately upon arriving at his first duty station, Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Iwakuni, Japan. While aboard MCAS Iwakuni he served admirably as a Project Supervisor and Crewleader which led him to be selected as the Junior Sailor of the Year 2002.

In April 2004, he reported to Naval Mobile Construction Battalion (NMCB) 3 in Port Hueneme, Calif. While assigned to NMCB 3 he deployed to Guam, Japan and twice to Iraq. In Guam and Japan he excelled as a Project Crewleader earning increased responsibility as a Project Supervisor. While deployed to Fallujah, Iraq he was hand selected to be a .50-caliber Gunner and Assistant Vehicle Commander as part of a Seabee Engineer Reconnaissance Team (SERT). During this deployment he was promoted to 2nd Class Petty Officer through the Command Advancement Program (CAP). His final deployment with NMCB 3 was to Ramadi, Iraq. On this deployment he held various positions to include Project Supervisor, Mission Commander, and Detail Assistant Officer-in-Charge (AOIC). He was recognized as NMCB 3’s Senior Sailor of the Year, 2008.

He reported to Construction Battalion Maintenance Unit (CBMU) 202 in April 2009 where he was advanced to Chief Petty Officer and served as Charlie Company Operations Chief. In January 2012, he joined NMCB 11 and deployed to Afghanistan where he served as a Detail AOIC on numerous different missions. Another deployment to Bahrain where he served as the Senior Enlisted Leader for a Seabee Detachment and later deployed to Rota, Spain where he served as the Battalion’s Quality Control Manager (S3QC) and then the Battalion’s Operations Chief (S3C). In July 2015, he joined NAVFAC Mid-Atlantic Public Works Department (PWD) where he served as the Command Senior Enlisted Leader. While there he was selected to Senior Chief and was transferred early to Amphibious Construction Battalion TWO (ACB2), where he served as the Battalion Operations Chief (S3C), was promoted to Master Chief then finished his tour as the Command Master Chief. In 2018, he reported to NAVFAC HQ where he served as the Command Senior Enlisted
Leader and Total Force Master Chief. In July of 2022 he reported to Underwater Construction Team ONE where he currently serves as the Command Senior Enlisted Leader.

Master Chief Sherman’s awards include a Navy Commendation Medal (5th Award), Navy Achievement Medal (5th Award). He is a graduate of the Senior Enlisted Academy and is Qualified as Seabee Combat Warfare Specialist and Expeditionary Warfare Specialist.
