Cmdr. Mark Kerr is a native of San Diego, CA and currently calls Tacoma, WA home.  He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in History from Iowa State University in 1993, a Master of Architecture degree from the University of New Mexico in 2004, and a Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College in 2018. He was commissioned in February 2005 through the Direct Commission Officer Program and graduated from Civil Engineer Corps Officer School in February 2007.
 
Assignments include Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of Detachment 0917 Naval Mobile Construction Battalion (NMCB) 17, Albuquerque 2005-2007; Assistant Air-Detachment OIC and Rawah Detachment OIC, Operation Iraqi Freedom, 2007-2008; Admin Officer (S1), NMCB 17, 2008-2010, Engineering Planning Officer, COMUSNAVSO/C4F, Operation Unified Response, Port-au-Prince, Haiti, 2010; Navy Engineer Liaison Officer, Commander, Naval Forces Korea, (CNFK) 2011-2012; Regional OIC and Air Detachment OIC, NMCB 18 2013-2014; J44 Engineering Division Action Officer, United States Pacific Command (USPACOM), 2014-2017; MoI Advisor, Combined Joint Engineer staff (CJENG), Combined Security Transition Command-Afghanistan (CSTC-A) 2017-2018; Engineering Action Officer, COMPACFLT, 2019; Deputy Chief Staff Officer (D-CSO), Naval Construction Group 1, (NCG1) 2019-2022.  

As a civilian, Kerr interned with several small architecture firms in Albuquerque, New Mexico, 2005-2010, before he joined the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) as a Project Engineer from 2010-2019. 
 
Kerr is currently Executive Officer (XO), NMCB 18. He is also an architect for the National Park Service, Department of Interior, in the Pacific West Regional Office.
 
He is qualified as a Seabee Combat Warfare Officer and Fleet Marine Force Officer, a Registered Architect in New Mexico, and a LEED Accredited Professional. Kerr is a Contracting Level II and Facilities Engineering Level II.

His personal decorations include Joint Service Commendation Medal (2 awards), Navy Commendation Medals (4 awards), Navy Achievement Medal (2 awards), and various unit and campaign awards. He is a Fellow of The Explorers Club, a Member of the Board of Directors for The Mountaineers, and an Eagle Scout.
