Master Chief Nyron De Gannes

Master Chief De Gannes is a native of Trinidad and Tobago; his family migrated to Teaneck, NJ, where he graduated from Teaneck High School in 2001. He entered the Delayed Entry Program in August 2001, enlisted in the Navy on February 26, 2002, and attended boot camp in Great Lakes, IL. In May 2002, he attended Equipment Operator (EO) “A” school in Fort Leonard Wood, MO.
In September 2002, he reported to Naval Mobile Construction Battalion (NMCB) 133 in Gulfport, MS, where he advanced to Third- and Second-Class Petty Officer. During this tour, he deployed to Kuwait, Mt. Fuji, and Al Taqaddum, Iraq. He joined the Navy Munitions Command in Norfolk, VA, in March 2007 as the Ordnance Support Equipment Supervisor, where he advanced to EO1. In March 2010, he reported to Expeditionary Combat Readiness Command (ECRC) in Norfolk, in support of Operations ENDURING FREEDOM and IRAQI FREEDOM. In May 2011, he became the leader of 31 personnel at Explosive Ordnance Disposal Expeditionary Support Unit (EODESU) Two, managing 694 pieces of equipment. By December 2014, he was the Lead Quality Control Specialist at Construction Battalion Maintenance Unit (CBMU) 202, overseeing projects totaling $825K. He was promoted to Chief Petty Officer in 2016, prior to his departure.
In November 2016, he assumed the role of S43 Operations Chief for Navy Cargo Handling Battalion (NCHB) ONE, where he led detachments to Antarctica, Guam, and Puerto Rico in support of Operation Deep Freeze and Hurricane Maria relief efforts. In July 2018, he transitioned to the position of Alfa Operations Chief at NMCB ONE and was subsequently selected for the rank of Senior Chief. By July 2021, he was serving at Naval Construction Group (NCG) TWO as the Embark and Equipment Officer, where he managed operations for three deployments, successfully moving over 2,600 personnel and 1.1M pounds of cargo. Prior to concluding this assignment, he was promoted to Master Chief Petty Officer.
Master Chief De Gannes reported onboard NMCB-11 in Gulfport, MS, in November 2023. He served as the Alfa Company Chief (A5), Supply LCPO (S4C) and Acting Command Master Chief. During this tour CBCM De Gannes was selected for Command Master Chief and detailed to NMCB 133in April 2025.
CMDCM De Gannes is designated as a Seabee Combat Warfare Specialist, Expeditionary Warfare Specialist, and Fleet Marine Force. He is a graduate of the Senior Enlisted Academy Class 234. His awards include the Navy Commendation Medal (five awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (four awards), Army Achievement Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, Battle “E” Ribbon (four awards), Navy Good Conduct Medal (seven awards), National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Sea Service Award (seven awards).
