Capt. Brian McFarland
Commanding Officer, 7th Naval Construction Regiment

Captain McFarland is a native of Ames, Iowa. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Iowa State University in 2000 and a Master of Science degree in Engineering from Purdue University in 2008. He enlisted in the Iowa Army National Guard in 1992 as a 68B Aircraft Powerplant Repairer, and later graduated as the distinguished honor graduate of the Iowa Army National Guard Officer Candidate School at the 185th Regional Training Institute in 2000.
 
Upon transfer to the Navy Reserve in 2003, he reported to Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 26 headquartered in Mount Clemens, MI.  While at NMCB 26, he served as Assistant Administration Officer, Air Detachment East Officer in Charge, and then deployed to Kuwait as the Air Detachment One Assistant Officer in Charge and Assistant Central Command Operations Officer for the 22nd Naval Construction Regiment. After his return, he served as the Training Officer for NMCB 26. He then reported to 7th Naval Construction Regiment in Newport, RI and served as the Current Operations Officer and later as Assistant Operations Officer. He was then assigned to Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 27, headquartered at Westover Air Reserve Base, MA, as the Operations Officer. He deployed in support of US Naval Forces Southern Command as the NMCB 27 Air Detachment Officer in Charge, based at Naval Station Guantanamo Bay. Upon his return from the SOUTHCOM deployment, he served as Executive Officer for NMCB 27. He then served as a Reserve Component Officer Manpower Coordinator at Naval Facilities Engineering Command, Washington District of Columbia. He then served as Commanding Officer of Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 14 in Gulfport, MS. After his command tour, he served as the Executive Officer of NATO Allied Command Transformation Navy Reserve Detachment Newport in Newport, RI. He then served as the Commanding Officer of Navy Reserve Navy Expeditionary Combat Command Headquarters in Little Creek, VA.
 
He is currently attached to Naval Construction Group 2 in preparation for his next assignment at 7th Naval Construction Regiment.
 
Captain McFarland is a registered Professional Engineer in the state of Michigan. He is a Seabee Combat Warfare Officer, Basic Parachutist, and has completed Joint Professional Military Education Phase 1. His personal decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (five awards), Army Achievement Medal and various unit and campaign awards.
