Cmdr. Michael L. Sapienza
CDR Sapienza is from New Orleans, LA. and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and was commissioned an Ensign from the United States Naval Academy in 2008. He earned his Master of Science in Applied Physics in 2009 from the Naval Postgraduate School and graduated from the Dari Basic Course at the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center in 2010. He graduated with a Master of Science in Engineering and Management from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2019.
CDR Sapienza was first assigned to Resident Officer in Charge of Construction, Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton as a construction manager in 2010. In 2012, he reported for a GWOT Service Assignment on Provincial Reconstruction Team Uruzgan, where he served as the Engineering Officer and Officer-in-Charge of one of the Team’s detachments. Following his tour in Afghanistan, he joined Naval Mobile Construction Battalion FOUR in June 2013 and filled positions of Future Operations Officer, Charlie Company Commander, and Detail Officer-in-Charge. In 2015, he reported to Naval Support Facility, Thurmont and served as Presidential Retreat Camp David’s Public Works Officer. In 2017, he served at NAVFAC Headquarters as Aide to the Commander. From 2019 to 2021, he was assigned to NAVFAC Southwest as the Facilities Engineering and Acquisition Division Director for Naval Base San Diego.
CDR Sapienza reported as the Executive Officer of Naval Mobile Construction Battalion ONE in June of 2021.
He is a Seabee Combat Warfare Officer, a licensed professional engineer in the State of California, a Certified Energy Manager, and member of the Defense Acquisition Corps.
