Cmdr. James T. Stewart
Cmdr. James Stewart enlisted in the Navy as a Nuclear Machinist Mate in June 1995. After completing the Nuclear Power Pipeline and Nuclear Welding School he reported to the USS Los Angeles (SSN-688) in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, where he completed WESTPAC ‘97 and earned his “Silver Dolphins”. In 1998 he was selected for the BOOST Program and subsequently reported to the University of Idaho where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering in 2003.
Commissioned in 2003 as a Surface Warfare Officer he completed two division officer tours and in 2007 was selected for lateral transfer and redesignation to the Civil Engineer Corps. He holds a Master of Arts in Economics from the University of Oklahoma (2009), and a Master of Science in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley (2013).
Stewart’s operational tours include Propulsion Division Officer, USS CAMDEN (AOE-2); Training and Readiness Officer, USS Rodney M. Davis (FFG-60); Assistant Operations Officer, Air Det OIC, Det Bosnia OIC, Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 3; Bravo Six, Amphibious Construction Battalion 1; Commanding Officer, Construction Battalion Maintenance Unit 303.
His shore assignments include Assistant Public Works Officer, FEAD Team Leader, Naval Station Pearl Harbor, HI; Public Works Officer, Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center, Twentynine Palms, CA; Public Works Officer, Naval Support Activity Naples, Italy; Chief Staff Officer, Naval Construction Group 2.
In June 2024 he assumed the duties as Commanding Officer, Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 1.
Stewart is a registered Professional Engineer in the state of Washington, a Certified Energy Manager, a Project Management Professional, a member of the Defense Acquisition Corps, and qualified as a Seabee Combat Warfare (Officer), Surface Warfare (Officer), and Submarine Warfare (Enlisted). His personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (4 awards), Navy Commendation Medal (4 awards), Navy Achievement Medal and other personal, service, unit and campaign awards.
