 CDR Michael L. Sapienza


Cmdr. Sapienza is a native of New Orleans, LA. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and commissioned from the United States Naval Academy in 2008. He earned his Master of Science in Applied Physics in 2009 from the Naval Postgraduate School and graduated with a Master of Science in Engineering and Management from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2019.

Cmdr. Sapienza’s operational tours include Engineering Officer and Detachment Officer-in-Charge, Provincial Reconstruction Team Uruzgan, Afghanistan; Future Operations Officer, Charlie Company Commander, and Detail Officer-in-Charge, Naval Mobile Construction Battalion FOUR; and Executive Officer, Naval Mobile Construction Battalion ONE.

His shore assignments include Assistant Resident Officer in Charge of Construction, Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton; Public Works Officer, Naval Support Facility Thurmont; Aide to the Commander, Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command Headquarters; and Facilities Engineering and Acquisition Division Director, Naval Base San Diego.

Cmdr. Sapienza currently serves as the Director, Maritime Operations Center for the 22nd Naval Construction Regiment.

He is a Seabee Combat Warfare Officer, a licensed professional engineer in the State of California, a Certified Energy Manager, Public Works Level III qualified, and member of the Defense Acquisition Corps.
