Capt. Angel Santiago
Captain Angel L. Santiago is a native of Puerto Rico. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering degree from the Polytechnic University of Puerto Rico and was commissioned an Ensign via Officer Candidate School in 1998. He earned a Master’s of Science in Engineering degree with a major in Engineering and Project Management and a minor in Engineering and Business for Sustainability from the University of California, Berkeley.
Santiago’s operational tours of duty include Naval Mobile Construction Battalion FOUR as the Commanding Officer; two assignments with Naval Mobile Construction Battalion SEVENTY-FOUR as Assistant Operations Officer and Officer in Charge, and later as Executive Officer; and two assignments with THIRTIETH Naval Construction Regiment as Communications Officer and later as Chief Staff Officer. His contingency operational tours include deployments to Kuwait and Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom; to Anbar Province in support of II Marine Expeditionary Force during Operation Iraqi Freedom 04-06; and to Afghanistan in Support of Combined Security Transition Command Afghanistan.
His shore assignments include Assistant Public Works Officer, Naval Weapons Station Charleston; Civil Engineer Corps Accessions Officer for the U.S. West Coast, Navy Personnel Command; Facilities Engineering and Acquisition Division Director (FEAD), Navy Base Point Loma; Operations and Military Support Officer, Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Southwest; Executive Assistant to the Commander, NAVFAC Atlantic; Shore Energy Program Action Officer and Strategic Laydown & Dispersal Integration and Assessment Deputy Branch Head, OPNAV N46; Executive Officer & Public Works Officer, Naval Support Facility Deveselu, Romania and as the Executive Officer for NAVFAC Northwest. Currently, he serves as the Commander of 22ND Naval Construction Regiment, Gulfport, MS.
Santiago is a registered Professional Engineer in the State of California, a Seabee Combat Warfare qualified officer, a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Accredited Professional, a Certified Energy Manager, a Public Works Level III qualified officer, and a member of the Defense Acquisition Corps. He is also a member of the Society of American Military Engineers, the U.S. Green Building Council, the Association of Energy Engineers, and a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers. His personal decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Meritorious Service Medal (four awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (six awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (two awards), and other personal, service, unit, and campaign awards.
