Master Chief Marvin A. Melbourne



A native of Kingston, Jamaica, Master Chief Marvin Melbourne enlisted in the U.S. Navy and departed for Recruit Training Command Great Lakes in April of 1996. Upon completion of basic military training, Melbourne attended additional training for equipment operation in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri.

Melbourne’s first duty station was Naval Mobile Construction Batallion (NMCB) THREE in Port Hueneme, California, where he completed deployments to Souda Bay Crete, Rota Spain, Sigonella Italy, Kosova, Bosnia and Guam. During his NMCB-3 tour, Melbourne participated in the Disaster Recovery Operations in Guam after Hurricane Paka, the Alaskan Airline recovery at Point Mugu, and served with the Kosovo Force. Melbourne then departed the battalion as a petty officer second class with an advanced Navy Enlisted Certification for equipment operation.

In 2001, Melbourne reported to the Southwest Regional Maintenance Center at Coronado in San Diego, California, where he was assigned as the lead operator for the landing craft recovery unit and served as the mission lead petty officer from 2001 to 2004. Melbourne then advanced to petty officer first class, and received orders to report to NMCB FIVE as first platoon chief, transportation supervisor, and crane crew supervisor. As first platoon and projects chief, Melbourne was deployed to Camp Covington in Guam, Camp Arifjan in Kuwait, and Camp Shields in Okinawa, Japan. In 2007, Melbourne was then selected as chief petty officer, and in 2008, received orders to report to the Naval Construction Training Center in Port Hueneme as the equipment operator schoolhouse director.

Melbourne received orders in 2011 to report to NMCB FIVE and served as operations chief for Alfa Company. He then deployed to Rota, and served as the officer in charge for the Turkey detachment, and returned to the U.S. as the officer in charge at the China Lake detachment. In 2014, Melbourne was selected to senior chief petty officer. Upon return to homeport, Melbourne received orders to report to the 30th Naval Construction Regiment in Port Huemene, where he served as the logistics department leading petty officer. In 2016, Melbourne was then selected as master chief petty officer.

Melbourne received orders in 2018 to report to NMCB FOUR as the company master chief for Alfa Company. In 2020, he then reported to Naval Facilities Engineering and Expeditionary Warfare Center in Port Hueneme, where he now serves as the command’s senior enlisted leader. Melbourne received orders in 2023 to NMCB Four where he’s serving as the Senior Enlisted Leader.

Master Chief is Seabee Combat Warfare and Expeditionary Warfare qualified as well as a Master Training Specialist Mentor, Has an Associates Degrees in Construction Technology and Vocational Education. He is married to the former Sheryl T. Brown, and is the proud father of three beautiful daughters; Shani, Amira, Elsada, and son Delano. His decorations include Navy Commendation Medals (4), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (4), Army Achievement Medals (2), Joint Meritorious Commendation medal Unit Commedation Medal (3)and various other campaign and service awards.
