Lt. Cmdr. William J. Tyler
Lieutenant Commander Will Tyler is a native of Chattanooga, TN. He enlisted in the Navy as a Sonar Technician (Surface) in February 2002 and commissioned as a Surface Warfare Officer (Cryptologic Warfare Option) through Officer Candidate School in 2013.
LCDR Tyler’s enlisted tours include Integrated Undersea Surveillance System (IUSS) Sea Component East, Virginia Beach, VA where he deployed onboard USNS PREVAIL (TAGOS 8) and USNS IMPECCABLE (TAGOS 23), Joint Maritime Facility (JMF) St. Mawgan, U.K., and Naval Ocean Processing Facility (NOPF) Dam Neck, VA.
Upon commissioning, he served as Electrical Officer, Repair Division Officer, and Assistant Weapons Officer onboard USS SHILOH (CG 67), forward deployed to C7F AOR with Carrier Strike Group FIVE in support of Ballistic Missile Defense operations. He then deployed to C6F and C5F AOR with Carrier Strike Group TEN in support of OPERATION INHERENT RESOLVE, embarked onboard USS DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER (CVN 69) while serving as Antiterrorism Officer and Tactical Action Officer for Commander, Destroyer Squadron TWO SIX.
After re-designating to Cryptologic Warfare Officer, he served as Computer Network Operations (CNO) Department Head and Deputy Branch Chief for the National Security Agency (NSA) at Cryptologic Warfare Group SIX, Fort Meade, MD, Cyber Mission Force and Navy Cyber Warfare Development Group Requirements Officer for the Deputy Chief of Naval Operations for Information Warfare (OPNAV N2N6), and most recently as the Deputy Branch Chief for Information Operations and Fleet Deception Officer for Commander, U.S. Pacific Fleet and Commander, Fleet Information Warfare Command Pacific. He is currently serving as the Executive Officer for Navy Expeditionary Intelligence Command, Virginia Beach, VA.
LCDR Tyler holds a B.S. in Criminal Justice/Computer Science from the University of Arkansas at Grantham and a M.A. in Defense and Strategic Studies from the U.S. Naval War College (with distinction). He is authorized to wear the Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (four awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (four awards), and various personal, unit, and service awards.
