 Mr. Karl Tenney


The son of a career Marine Officer, Karl is a native of North Carolina. Karl graduated from Norwich University in 1992 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and received his commission through the NROTC.

He completed his Division Officer tours onboard WILLIAM H. STANDLEY (CG-32) as Electronic Warfare Officer and CHOSIN (CG 65) as Communications Officer and Electrical/Auxiliaries Officer. As a Department Head, he served as Operations Officer in CAMDEN (AOE-2) and BUNKER HILL (CG 52). He served as Damage Control Assistant in BOXER (LHD 4) and Executive Officer in CHOSIN (CG 65).

Ashore, he attended the Naval Post Graduate School earning his Master of Science Degree in Computer Science – 3D Graphics Modeling and Simulation. He served on the COMNAVSURFOR Staff as the Anti-Terrorism/Force Protection Training Officer (N74) and Fleet Readiness Schools Officer (N75). While assigned to instructor duty at the Surface Warfare Officer School Command, Newport, RI, he served as the N73 Maritime Warfighting Directorate Lead Instructor and Air Defense/Information Operations cell Lead Instructor for Department Head and Major Command/PCO/PXO students.

In July 2012, Karl reported to Maritime Expeditionary Security Group ONE (MESG-1) serving as the N3. Following the merger with Riverine Forces, he assumed responsibilities as Coastal Riverine Group ONE (CRG-1) Training and Evaluation Unit (TEU) OIC. In late 2014 he was appointed Acting Deputy Commodore, CRG-1. Following military retirement in April 2016, he accepted the civilian position as MESG-1 TEU Deputy OIC.
