CAPT. Gordon E. Meek III

Chief of Staff, Navy Expeditionary Combat Command

13 April 2023 Capt. Gordon E. Meek III is from Evans, Georgia and graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology in March of 1996 with a Bachelor of Civil Engineering. He received his commission in July of 1996 through Officer Candidate School in Pensacola, Florida.

Meek’s first assignment was at Naval Air Facility Adak, Alaska where he served for one year as an Assistant Resident Officer in Charge of Construction administering the caretaker site contract. In December of 1997 he reported to Naval Mobile Construction Battalion (NMCB) THREE homeported in Port Hueneme, California.

Following his tour with the Seabees, Meek reported to the Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island as the Assistant Director for Facilities in November of 1999. In December of 2000, he reported to Atlanta, Georgia to serve as the Executive Assistant to the Commander, Engineering Field Activity Atlantic/Deputy Commander, Second Naval Construction Brigade.

In June of 2002, Meek transferred to Public Works Center Washington in the Washington Navy Yard and served as Department Head for both Materials and Utilities. In February of 2003, he augmented the Marine Expeditionary Force (I MEF), Engineer Group (MEG) in Kuwait and Iraq for a six-month deployment in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

In June of 2004, he reported to Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California, graduating in December of 2005 with a Master of Business Administration degree. He reported to Defense Acquisition University, West Region in Port Hueneme, California, serving as the Deputy Chair for Contracting Department.

From May of 2007 until August of 2009, Meek served as the Operations Officer, 30th Naval Construction Regiment (NCR); deploying first to Operation Iraqi Freedom and then to Balikatan 2009 where NCR commanded the Joint Civil-Military Operations Task Force. In August of 2009, he assumed the duties as Assistant Public Works Officer, Naval Station Norfolk. From August of 2011 through May of 2013, he served as the Public Works Officer at Submarine Base New London, Connecticut.

Meek commanded NMCB THREE from June of 2013 through June of 2015. He then served on the Chief of Naval Operations staff from 2015-2017 as the Military Construction Action Officer and served as NAVFAC Washington’s Operations Officer from 2017-2018. He reported aboard NAVFAC Pacific in Pearl Harbor, HI and served as the Deputy Commander for Operations from June of 2018 to July of 2020.  His most recent assignment was Commanding Officer, NAVFAC Mid-Atlantic & Regional Engineer from July 2020 to June 2022.

Meek reported to Navy Expeditionary Combat Command, July 11, 2022 as the Director, Maritime Headquarters, he assumed the duties as Chief of Staff in February 2023.

Meek is Seabee Combat Warfare and Fleet Marine Force qualified, has completed Phase I of Joint Professional Military Education, is a registered Professional Engineer in the Commonwealth of Virginia, a Project Management Professional, and a member of the DoD Acquisition Corps. He completed the Harvard Kennedy School of Government Senior Executive Fellow Seminar in February of 2020. Meek was on teams that were awarded the Presidential Unit Citation, Navy Unit Commendation, and the Battle “E.”
