Deployment Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

How long is the demobilization/redeployment process?

Generally the demobilization process for Reservists takes 10-15 days, but can be longer, and the redeployment process for active duty may take up to three days.

Contact ECRC for more information regarding processing schedules.

As a Reservist, can I fly directly home after demobilizing instead of flying to my NOSC?

It depends on the situation. You must coordinate with your NOSC and make the appropriate arrangements to do so.

Where can I find contact information for the next stop that I am going to after ECRC?

Review your orders. It can also depend on the location. Most orders have the next command’s POC information.

If I get done early with one step in the process can I go to the next one early?

No, the schedule is set for many teams to process at one time. As you may be finished with this step, another team may have the next one filled at that time.

No, the schedule is set for many teams to process at one time. As you may be finished with this step, another team may have the next one filled at that time.

You are allowed a rental car if your orders clearly state that rental car/POV is authorized. In some cases, one rental car for four members may be allowed.

Can I do a courtesy MOB/DEMOB at a NOSC other than my own NOSC?

Yes, but the member will need both NOSC commanding officer's approval and a cost analysis done to make sure that the courtesy MOB/DEMOB is more advantageous to the U.S. government.

The IA must also contact NESA@navy.mil so their orders can be modified.

Do I need to bring a uniform or two, and which do I bring?

Yes. ECRC NO LONGER ISSUES TYPE III UNIFORMS, with the exception of GTMO Sailors.

IA/RC-MOB & GSA Sailors must show up to ECRC with (Minimum 2 sets of NWU Type III’s but recommend 3 sets) TYPE III Uniforms are mandatory while processing at ECRC (NAVADMIN 214/17).

The Navy Working Uniform (NWU) is now authorized for wear off-base, during routine stops (daycare, banking, post office) and at eating establishments during the prescribed workday (0700-1600).

CNT or Poly-wool Khakis for E7 and above is authorized year-round. Wash Khaki’s, Flight Suits and/or Green Flight Jackets are NOT AUTHORIZED.  If any of these items require replacement prior to you reporting to ECRC, please coordinate with your NOSC (or Parent Command for GSA’s).

If you expect that you will need cold weather items at your Ultimate Duty Station (UDS), we recommend you bring what you think you will need.

What kind of uniforms will I be issued?

Upon arrival at ECRC, mobilizing Sailors will receive specific PGI/PPE to be issued from ECRC, based upon the Sailor’s Noble Eagle Number.

You will be issued uniforms depending on the Ultimate Duty Station and mission linked to your Noble Eagle number.

NOT EVERYONE WILL BE ISSUED GEAR!  Most will only get a pair of dessert brown hot weather boots and maybe Gortex Trousers.

Am I going to be issued the new Navy PT uniform?

No. Reserve component personnel are issued the PTU by their Navy Operational Support Center (NOSC) and active component personnel are responsible for purchasing the uniform thru the Naval Exchange system. While aboard ECRC, the PTU shirt must be tucked into the shorts while performing Group PT and the appropriate footwear is required.

What kind of luggage can I carry?

DO NOT bring hard-sided luggage. You will be limited to the total weight 115 lbs. (seabags + 15 lbs carry on) In most cases, military aircraft are utilized. Luggage is then palletized prior to loading on the plane. Seabags are more convenient for this purpose. Bring only your essentials. In most locations Exchange facilities are available for military personnel. You are responsible for your seabag and any additional gear.

How long will it take to get my uniforms?

If you are to be issued uniforms at ECRC you will be fitted on your first day of processing.   Sailors going to GTMO will normally receive their items on Thursday.  All others will normally get their issue on Fridays.  Remember, holiday weeks will be adjusted.

What if I have never worn this uniform and don’t know my sizes?

There will be uniforms and boots for you to try on during fitting on the first day of processing. It is your responsibility to get the right sizes. After you sign for your uniforms and gears, you will NOT be able to exchange, except in the case of damage.

** Talk with your NOSC’s admin and supply departments if you still have questions before you complete your check-out with them. **

When does my dental exam have to be completed?

Your dental exam is required 90 days prior to your RLD (Ready Load Date).

What specific documentation does ECRC medical need from my gynecologist?

The providers will need a copy of your results/cytology from your PCM and/or the MTF where the PAP was completed. If over 30, results from your HPV will also be needed.

I completed my audiogram at an Air Force or Army Base; does a non-hearing audiogram meet the requirement for mobilization?

The Navy requires all Sailors to complete an audiogram 12 months prior your RLD and be done under the Navy Hearing Conservation Program form DD2215 or DD2216. Make sure you receive documentation from those MTF’s because sometimes the Navy’s medical programs can’t see other branch’s medical systems.

The Navy requires an HIV blood draw every two years, why do I have redo my HIV at ECRC?

The requirement for all AOR’s is that the member needs a HIV draw 120 days prior to your RLD along with a DoD Repository Sample.

Do I have to print my EDHA or ePHA for my medical process?

No. The provider and/or Corpsman will sign everything electronically.

How do I know if I need gas mask inserts or ballistic eyewear?

This depends on the AOR or command you are reporting to and if you need an eye prescription other than reading glasses. Most likely, if you are mobilizing to AFRICOM or CENTCOM and you have an eye prescription you will need to order eyewear at your NOSC or parent command.

Where can I complete my medical requirements if those services are not offered at my NOSC?

Once your mobilization is initiated or when you are tagged for mobilization, your Tricare begins which in most cases is 6 months prior. Within that period, you are able to go to any MTF, VA or civilian facility to complete most of your requirements.

*Have your Tricare eligibility letter (on MILCONNECT) and official orders*
