Lt. Cmdr. Daniel J. Miller

Lt. Cmdr. Daniel Miller is a native of Florida. He graduated from the University of South Florida in 2009 with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. In 2011, Miller earned a Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, then later that year commissioned as an ensign through the Direct Commission Officer Program as a reserve Civil Engineer Corps officer.

Miller was first assigned to Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 14 (NMCB-14). From 2011 to 2015 he held various construction battalion assignments, including detachment Officer-in-Charge (OIC), Charlie Company Commander, and Assistant Operations Officer. In these roles he managed a variety of construction projects and supervised phases of Innovative Readiness Training construction projects in Granby, Colorado. From December 2015 to 2017 Lt. Cmdr. Miller mobilized with Combined Joint Task Force – Horn of Africa (CJTF-HOA) on the engineering staff headquartered in Djibouti, Africa. He worked as the Facility Engineer and Assistant Office-in-Charge of Forward Operating Location Manda Bay, Kenya. Here he managed a mix of military labor and private contractor construction projects throughout the base. Lt. Cmdr. Miller was then assigned to Seventh Naval Construction Regiment (7NCR) from March 2017 to December 2018, serving as the Acting Administrative Department Head and as an Operations Staff Officer on the future operations staff, supporting projects in Louisiana and Nebraska. Following this regimental assignment, he joined the Command, Naval Forces Korea (CNFK) Engineer Detachment as a facilities planning and programming officer and worked on a team conducting facility assessments throughout the Korean peninsula until June 2021. Miller was then assigned as a Theater Special Operations Command Staff Engineer with Special Operations Command South (SOCSOUTH) as a member of a joint engineering team in support of Special Operations Forces requirements throughout the U.S. Southern Command area of operations until April 2025.

Miller began his current assignment as the Executive Officer of Naval Construction Battalion 27 (NCB-27) in June 2025.

Lt. Cmdr. Miller is a Seabee Combat Warfare (SCW) qualified officer, and completed the Joint Professional Military Education (JPME) Phase 1 program through the Naval War College. His personal decorations include the Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and Army Achievement Medal. LCDR Miller is a registered Professional Engineer (PE) in Florida.

As a civilian, Miller works in civil service for the Department of Veterans Affairs as a Supervisory Healthcare Engineer at the James A. Haley Medical Center in Tampa, Florida. Here he holds certifications as a Contracting Officer’s Representative and in Facilities Engineering and Construction.
