VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Happy 79th Birthday to the U.S. Navy Seabees! Captain Richard Hayes welcomes a group of Sailorsand civilians who gathered to celebrate the 79th Birthday of the U.S. Navy Seebees. On March 5, 1942, the "Seabees" name and insignia were officially authorized. Rear Adm. Ben Moreell who personally furnished them with their official motto: Construimus, Batuimus: "We Build, We Fight." As we honor the Construction Battalion today, Navy Expeditionary Combat Command, NECC, Heaquarters celebrated with a cake cutting and singing of the Seabee song. U.S. Navy photo by Spencer R.
