History

The TWENTIETH Naval Construction Regiment (20NCR) was recommissioned on 17 April 1966 nearly two decades after its decommissioning following World War II. Located at Naval Construction Battalion Center Gulfport, 20NCR was reestablished to support the buildup of the Naval Construction Force (NCF) during the United States’ involvement in Vietnam. 20NCR became the TWENTIETH Seabee Readiness Group on 9 January 2003 in order to more effectively function as the training arm of the Atlantic Fleet Seabees.

A decade later, on 26 February 2013, 20SRG was renamed Naval Construction Group TWO (NCG 2) as part of a massive NCF restructuring. Included in the transformation, the TWENTY-SECOND Naval Construction Regiment (22 NCR) became an embedded yet independent Command capable of the forward deployment of an integrated Battle Staff that is able to execute combat service support missions across the spectrum of joint and combined military operations while providing command and control over Navy Expeditionary Combat Command (NECC) units as part of a robust Adaptive Force Package (AFP).

NCG 2 is the administrative Immediate Superior in Command (ISIC) for Active and Reserve Component Atlantic Fleet Seabees and Expeditionary Combat Camera under the direction of NECC. Exercising this role, NCG 2 mans, trains, equips, and operationally employs its subordinate units to provide responsive general engineering support to supported commanders across five Geographic Combatant Commands. Included in the diverse range of capabilities are the construction and maintenance of base facilities, contingency and exercise-related construction, theater security cooperation missions, humanitarian assistance, disaster response, and defense support to civilian authorities.
